About this property

Pepper’s Cottage is a recently renovated fisherman’s cottage situated on the picturesque Irsha Street which runs parallel to the Torridge Estuary, in West Appledore. Packed with character and charm, Pepper’s Cottage is a great base for up to four guests and a furry friend who are looking to holiday in a beautiful location and access the delights of North Devon such as Westward Ho!, Bideford and Clovelly, to name a few. Step inside through a small lobby into an open plan living space with a well-equipped, newly fitted bespoke kitchen, dining area and comfortable sitting area which boasts a log effect fire and smart TV. The whole space has underfloor heating for the colder months. Upstairs at either end of the cute landing are two bedrooms, one with a plush double bed and television, the other with twin beds and a view of the garden. There is also a shower room with vanity unit and toilet as well as a separate WC, next door. Step out the back through a stable door onto a small patio area where a large shed is situated for storing beach gear. Walk up some steps at the side of the cottage and you will reach a pretty south facing patio area with table, chairs and sun umbrella. Relax here during the day or unwind in the evening, after a busy day of exploration. Above this is a small lawned area with washing line (if needed) and a sun deck at the top of the garden where you can enjoy spectacular views of the estuary and landscape beyond. Explore Appledore, where you can stroll along the quaint streets lined with colourful fishermen’s cottages, stop for a pint at The Seagate, or sample delicious seafood at The Royal George. Take a short drive to the nearby town of Bideford, where you can visit the historic Pannier Market, take a leisurely walk along the scenic Tarka Trail, or hop on a boat trip to Lundy Island for a day of wildlife spotting. Whilst staying at the cottage, you must go to Northam Burrows Country Park, where there is a wealth of attractions including, golf, birdwatching, walking, and close by is Westward Ho Beach, one of the widest beaches in England. Pepper's Cottage is a fabulous base for a Devonshire break.

Northam is a small village with a restaurant, pub, takeaway and small supermarket and lies on the hill above the lively village of Westward Ho! Westward Ho! has a two mile long glorious sandy beach, an excellent selection of cafes, bars and restaurants, a surf school and shops. The beach is popular for surfing and kite surfing, plus life guards are on duty during the summer season and there's a designated dog area. The Tarka Trail runs through Bideford and is especially popular with cyclists, with cycle hire, including child buggies and even dog buggies available here and at many places along the way. Northam Burrows is part of North Devon’s Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is enjoyed by walkers, and the Royal North Devon Golf Club is also here. For the more energetic the coastal path to Peppercombe and Clovelly offers stunning views along the coastline. From Bideford there are boat trips to Lundy Island, and nearby Appledore has fascinating narrow streets, interesting shops, fish and chips shops and a restaurant, as well as fishing trips. Family attractions nearby include the Big Sheep and Milky Way, as well as National Trust properties, Hartland Abbey, RHS Rosemoor and Dartington Glass. Also Clovelly is delightful with its quay, steep cobbled streets and donkeys and no cars are allowed down into the village. There's plenty to see and do from Northam.

I had no need to worry, you can pull up outside on the little one way street to unload and there are spaces outside the front and a parallel street behind with short cut paths and loads of spaces and free! The cottage was simply gorgeous. Well equipped kitchen, fabulous comfy beds and good quality linen. Super location, very homely, clearly a lot of money spent making it really special. Only room for improvement would be a hairdryer, locks on the bathroom doors and a tea strainer
