Snaptrip says

Blackthorn Copse is highly praised for its beautiful lodge, peaceful surroundings, and thoughtful touches. Guests appreciate the quiet location, starry nights, and fully equipped kitchen. While there are concerns about safety and maintenance, the overall experience is enjoyable, with many looking to return.

Guests that stayed at this property said

The lodge is described as 'sparkling clean' by a guest, indicating a high level of cleanliness that contributes to the overall positive experience.

The location is appreciated for its tranquillity and lack of noise or light pollution, with clear night skies and proximity to local attractions. However, the lack of a gate for child and pet safety slightly impacts the score.

Guests find the lodge spacious with large bedrooms and en-suites, contributing to a comfortable stay. The mention of a guest's accident due to poor lighting on steps suggests a slight concern for comfort related to safety.

The lodge is well-equipped with a full kitchen and other amenities. However, the absence of a gate and adequate outdoor seating, as well as the mention of insufficient lighting, indicate room for improvement in facilities and maintenance.

Guests are delighted by the thoughtful extras such as coffee pods, tea bags, and a bottle of wine. However, as gifts are not guaranteed, future guests should consider these as pleasant surprises rather than expectations.

Haverthwaite is a small village and civil parish in the Furness region of Cumbria. It is within the Lake District National Park and is located six miles east of Ulverston, near the southern end of Windermere. The village gets part of its name from the Old Norse word thwaite which usually refers to a clearing or settlement in the forest. Close to the village is Newby Bridge which is at the southern tip of Lake Windermere which takes its name from the five arched stone bridge built in 1651 over the River Leven. The famous Furness Railway, one of Britain's oldest working standard gauge steam railways, runs between Haverthwaite and Newby Bridge. Visit the Lakeside Hotels and enjoy magnificent views across Windermere and the surrounding fells, or enjoy the Aquarium of the Lakes, where the naturally themed habitats, bring the history of the Lakes vividly to life.

We have been lucky to stay in plenty of places across the Lakes District and Blackthorn is definitely up there with the best. The location is great for exploring the south lakes and the owners have done a great job of not making it to large with only about 10 lodges on-site which has helped to keep it quite, peaceful and nature at the heart of it. We will definitely be back soon.

The park is very quiet with no noise or light pollution, if you're lucky enough to have a clear night the stars are amazing. Plenty to do in the surrounding area, take a ride on the steam train or a trip up the lake on the steam boat, hire paddle boards or kyaks and of course plenty of walks. The lodge was beautiful with lots of space, the bedrooms are large and both have en-suite showers. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need. The small touches like coffee pods, tea bags, sugar, shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, milk, dishwasher tablets and bin bags are all things that you might not think are important but they are and it was a lovely surprise to fine a bottle of wine cooling in the fridge! The little things like that are the things that make the difference. Unfortunately the pub was closed while we were there but there are plenty of other places to go. The only small thing I would suggest is putting a gate on the outside space. It's fine for adults but if you have small children or dogs they could easily get out and with the river being literally meters away it could be dangerous, apart from that our stay was very enjoyable and I would definitely not hesitate to book this again.
