Snaptrip says

Jane's Cottage in Cumbria & The Lake District is a well-received holiday rental, praised for its comfort, cleanliness, and friendly hosts. Guests have enjoyed the cosy atmosphere, comfortable beds, and the added charm of being on a working farm. The rural location offers beautiful views and proximity to local attractions, though the access road's condition has been noted as a concern for those with low-clearance vehicles.

Guests that stayed at this property said

The majority of guests found the cottage to be very clean and tidy, contributing to a comfortable stay. However, a few guests mentioned issues with cleanliness in specific areas, such as the fridge and pots, which slightly impacts the overall score.

The location is generally appreciated for its beauty and proximity to local sights. However, the rough access road and the property's remoteness have been concerns for some guests, affecting the convenience of travel to and from the cottage.

Guests consistently report that the beds are very comfortable and the cottage cosy, with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The only minor discomfort mentioned by a few was the restricted headroom upstairs and the quality of the pillows.

Facilities such as the Japanese bath and underfloor heating are highlights, but there are mentions of maintenance issues like an overgrown garden and a broken tumble dryer. The driveway condition also suggests a need for better upkeep of the property's exterior.

The hosts are frequently commended for their friendliness and helpfulness, with special mentions of fresh eggs and logs provided. While these gestures are appreciated, it's important to note that such personal touches may vary and are not guaranteed with every stay.

About this property

Jane's Cottage is a charming, one-bedroom holiday home

situated on a working farm, just one mile from the traditional Lakeland village of Hawkshead.

Walk onto the patio and step into your open plan sitting room with kitchen and dining area. Your neat and cheerful, fitted kitchen has a handy breakfast bar. Admire the oval dining table sitting attractively by the characterful esse log burner. Sit on the comfortable suite and catch up with your favourite programmes on your Apple TV. Step to the lounge window and look out over the front garden to the stunning and timeless fells. The bathroom, which has a Japanese deep-set bath, a bench seat and a wet room shower on a mosaiced floor, is also on the ground floor. Climb the open treaded stairs to the mezzanine floor to discover your attractive double bedroom with lovely roof lines and pretty, full width window seat. Janes Cottage is set on a working farm with sheep and horses. Outdoor furniture is situated to the front on the patio. Bike storage is available.

You will have the choice of many superb paths and trails around the local area, as well as being in striking distance of some of the best hill walks in the National Park. For a relaxing day walk to Hawkshead and visit the acclaimed Beatrix Potter Museum, run by the National trust. Explore the historic and the beautiful, grade 1 listed village church before visiting Wordsworth’s old school. After all that, relax with a drink in one of village’s excellent cafes or pubs.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.

Accommodation was quirky and plenty of room for a week for a couple and a dog. Only a short drive to excellent walks and towns but heed the warning about the driveway as you do need good clearance on the bumpy driveway. One negative- the pillows were absolutely criminal so would strongly recommend bringing your own or pre booking your appointment at the chiropractors for your return home.
