Kirkstone Cottage in Ambleside is praised for its tasteful decor, cosy atmosphere, and well-equipped kitchen. Its central location is ideal for exploring the local area, with easy access to shops, bars, and restaurants. Guests appreciate the comfortable bed and efficient wood burner, contributing to a pleasant stay despite some concerns.

Guests that stayed at this property said

The cottage generally receives positive remarks for cleanliness, with guests finding it clean and tidy. However, some mention cobwebs, a musty smell, and a stale odour in certain areas, suggesting room for improvement in thoroughness and ventilation.

The location is highly appreciated for its proximity to local amenities and the ease of accessing walks and public transport. However, the proximity to a busy road and associated noise and pollution slightly detract from the overall experience.

Guests find the cottage cosy and the bed comfortable, contributing to a pleasant stay. Some issues with underfloor heating and seating comfort are noted, indicating that while generally comfortable, there are aspects that could be enhanced.

Facilities are well-regarded, particularly the kitchen, but maintenance issues such as a faulty lock, underfloor heating problems, and poor Wi-Fi connectivity affect the scores. The need for additional bathroom storage and better shower facilities are also mentioned.

There is insufficient information regarding the presence of thoughtful gestures such as gifts, and therefore, it cannot be accurately assessed. No reviews mention such details, so this category must remain ungraded.

This time a very cold December, we stayed Sunday to Sunday but that last weekend was subject to the most heavy snow where it was impossible to get out on our last day Sunday, I emailed the owner Julia to explain the situation and thankfully she said it was no problem to stay till Monday

I phoned the number in the information book and was told that they were extremely busy and to leave my number and they would get back to me. I am still waiting no reply. We were concerned about your cleaners as the floors were dirty. When we returned back to cottage twice there was a cleaners car parked in our space and not working in the area. Unfortunately not up to Sykes standard.

But Sykes and the owner know this already, which is why they are not honest about the listing. The pollution from the A591 makes your nose and eyes run. The photos should show the A591 and not Smithy Brow at the back. The cottage is fine if the guests are out all day. Do the right thing.
